DBZ Royale ST Electric Guitar Trans Walnut

The DBZ Guitars Royale in Trans Walnut is surely a testament to the axiom “less is more”. Based on the Imperial body design, the DBZ Guitars Royale has a smaller footprint in overall body size. It still has the exact same (thin) edge profile, but a tighter tailpiece configuration; making this guitar one that any Humbucker® player would desire. This guitar was new in 2011 and is destined to become a classic. 

We picked out this guitar in its most standard model to get a base look at it.  Up front, the Royale is stunning.  The finish is glossy and shows a beautiful grain.  The all solid mahogany body is ultra-thin.  This guitar is hand crafted at the MIRR Music Co. in Korea, which continues its excellent reputation for building quality guitars. DBZ Guitars designers were insistent on a quality guitar all the way through, so the overseas building process stops at the point of hardware.  When the instruments arrive in America, DBZ installs the pickups and hardware.  The guitar is fitted with Grover tuners, a Tone Pros style Tune-O-Matic bridge and a custom Dean B Zelinsky signature tailpiece. (Models built after 2012, do not feature the DBZ signature tailpiece). The head stock is adorned with a custom, foundry metal DBZ eagle emblem inlay.  This inlay not only gives the instrument a unique look, it actually increases overall sustain by adding weight to the already angled head stock.  (Models built after 2012, do not feature the DBZ Eagle Inlay).

The pickup design was a process of great importance in the design of DBZ Guitars.  These pickups were designed by Dean B Zelinsky and Jeff Diamante in conjunction with Seymour Duncan.  These pickups are wound in the USA and installed on the guitars in the USA as well.  The DBZB and DBZ5 pickups are well tuned for the size, balance and build of this guitar.  These pickups are basically Seymour Duncan DD1 and DD-5 Humbuckers.  The neck pickup delivers great Jazzy clean tones and thick crunchy distortion tones.  The bridge pickup is as hot as you need it.  The pickup tones combine well with the thin mahogany body construction to deliver a biting tone.

The set in Mahogany neck has a soft V shape which keeps your hands in proper position and enables easy stretches.  The V neck also made long play time very easy whether standing or sitting and playing.  The fingerboard is smooth and enables fast play.  There are 22 medium jumbo frets, perfectly polished from DBZ, on an ebonized Indian rosewood fingerboard.  DBZ Diamond Series inlays adorn the fret board.

The guitar pairs up with an alligator skin hard shell case.  I would suggest only the oem case for this instrument given its unique size and shape.  The cases have Dean's signature and the DBZ logo on the front.

In review, the DBZ Royale Electric Guitar gets all raves.  The guitar sounds great.  Looks beautiful.  And, the feel and playability is smooth and exceeds what I expected before playing.
